Having a healthy diet is crucial to keeping diabetes away.

However, there is a lot of false information about what diet is best for preventing diabetes.

Many guides will tell you just to avoid sugar but sugar, the right types such as from fruits and vegetables, fuel our bodies. Our bodies run off of glucose, which fructose is converted to in our bodies. Our brains operate almost exclusively from sugar, mostly being fueled by glucose, consuming up to 20% to 25% of the glucose in our bodies.

The problem isn't simply sugar intake but the other types of foods that are being consumed in addition to the sugars, which can alter how sugars pass through the bloodstream. In conditions of health, our blood sugar rises during food consumption and then the insulin that our bodies secretes quickly feeds the sugar into our cells for nourishment and energy. In conditions of poor health, our blood sugar rises during food consumption and stays elevated, which is a state that is characteristic of diabetes.

Diabetes isn't just a sugar consumption problem but a problem with diet in general, where the consumption of other foods then cause problems when we eat sugars.
