Frequently Asked Questions

Why telemedicine?

Telemedicine is about convenience. If you need something like a prescription refill, do you really want to have to travel to your local doctor's office and sit in the waiting area? A simple phone call from your home may be all that is needed to satisfy your needs.

Is telemedicine right for the medical issue that I need addressed?

If the medical issue you want addressed is represented in the list of services on this website, it is appropriate for the telemedicine visit. All of the services that we offer have been carefully chosen and can be appropriately and adequately addressed through telemedicine. This saves you the time, cost, and hassel of having to travel to a healthcare facility and wait.

Which conditions are inappropriate to be treated over telemedicine?

Emergency medical situations should never be treated over telemedicine. This includes things such as severe respiratory distress, hemorrhaging, myocardial infarction (heart attack), and all such other occurrences. For these conditions, 911 should be called or the patient should go to the nearest local hospital for treatment.

Besides emergency situations, many other situations are inappropriate to be treated over telemedicine and instead would require an in-person evaluation. This includes conditions such as an ear ache. Without looking into the ear to check for things such as redness, fluid, swelling, ear wax buildup, it can be very difficult to assess the exact condition of the ear. Another example would be a person having symptoms of a typical upper respiratory infection such as a cough. In a healthcare office, the provider could do rapid tests to check for illnesses such as covid, the flu, etc. to rule those out. This would not be possible during a telemedicine visit.

Still, many conditions require in-person visits by overseeing government authorities. An example would be the CDL (Commercial Driver License) physical, which is a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam to ensure drivers of commercial vehicles are medically fit and don't pose a risk to public safety. This cannot be done virtually, as it requires a full physical exam of the patient.

For example, in New York, this is the New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) whose verification search can be found at the following link: https://eservices.nysed.gov/professions/verification-search. From there, with the name of the provider and the appropriate profession, you should be able to find an active license in that state. This means that the provider has met all qualifications in the respective state to practice in his or her given profession.

How does treatment of STDs work?

Most STDs can be treated with antibiotics. STD visits are appropriate for a telemedicine setting because usually a diagnosis can be made by a history from the patient. STD testing can also be done. A prescription will be made to your local pharmacy and you can pick it up and start taking it the same day. Some STD treatments only require a single dose of a medication.

Are telemedicine visits really more convenient?

Telemedicine visits are very convenient in most cases being that you don't have to go to a physical office and wait. One downside is when you need labs done. Usually for an in-person, in-office visit, you do your labs during that visit while you are there such as blood tests, urine sample, etc. With telemedicine, if you need labs, instead of going to a doctor's office, you would instead go to a lab where they will do your blood tests, urine samples, etc. This is only of course when you need labs. Many visits don't require labs.
