Hepatitis B Screening Test

The screening test to check for active infection with hepatitis B is the Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) test.

The Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) test indicates current infection with hepatitis B (either acute or chronic) by checking for the hepatitis B surface antigen. HBsAg is a protein on the surface of a hepatitis B virus. It can be detected in high levels in the blood during acute or chronic hepatitis B virus infection. Presence of HBsAg indicates that the person is infectious. If HBsAg is not found in the serum, the person is not currently infected with the hepatitis B virus.

Unlike the hepatitis B panel, this visit is a single test that checks for only for active infection. It cannot tell the immunity status of the person from hepatitis B. Neither does it tell whether the infection is acute or chronic. To know this, do the hepatitis B panel testing.

However, if you only want to know if you have active infection, schedule your test today below.
