Anemia is a condition characterized by a low red blood cell count.
Your body doesn't have as many red blood cells as it should.
There are many reasons for anemia, but the most common reasons are due to either low serum vitamin B12 levels, low serum folate levels, low serum ferritin levels, and/or low serum copper levels.
This package includes a CBC (Complete Blood Count), serum vitamin B12 test, a serum folate test, a serum ferritin test, and a serum copper test, along and a provider visit with interpretation of the results with personalized guidance.
If your body shows that you are anemic and all of these lab tests return normal, this would warrant further testing. Though most individuals who have anemia do so due to low vitamin B12 or iron levels being the most common causes, anemia can be caused by a host of other issues such as kidney problems (the kidneys produce erythropoeitin which stimulates the production of red blood cells), cancer (can cause low red blood cell production), etc.
This anemic panel not only checks the vitamin B12, folate, ferritin, and copper levels, but will also reveal characteristics of your red blood cells in the CBC such as its size, weight, hemoglobin concentration, which gives further revelation into your health. Proper red blood cells are within a certain size, weight, and has a certain hemoglobin concentration attached to them. Lower than average size (microcytic conditions) or higher than average size (macrocytic conditions) warrant investigation.
